Wildlife Photography Safaris

The requests for conducting photo safaris in East Africa have been overwhelming. David Gottlieb will now be offering different options for up close pesonalized wildlife, nature and cultural photo safaris for small and intimate groups.

Although Africa is full of wonderful destinations, these photo safaris concentrate on Kenya and East Africa including Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda, although a Namibia extension will be offered. Kenya may have more species and a larger number of wildlife than any other country in Africa.

In particular, Kenya is one of the few nations on the African continent where the hunting of wildlife is illegal.

Destinations

David's photo safaris will concentrate on locations where there are abundant opportunities to view wildlife in action and to record images.

Kenya

  • The Mara is internationally famous for the wildebeest migration where big cats abound, as well as a large concentration of other wildlife. the Mara is part of the Serengeti ecosystem.
  • Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks are famous for the tuskers, the big tusked elephants, as well as the desert oasis of Marsabit National Park.
    • Amboseli offers views of the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro as well as close encounters with the largest herds of African elephants. More than 600 bird species can be found in the various ecosystems of Amboseli.
    • Tsavo National Parks: Together, the two Parks, Tsavo East and Tsavo West, comprise more than 22,000 km square, making it Kenya's largest national park, as well as one of the world's largest parks.
    • Marsabit:  Extremely remote and lush and surrealistically surrounded by desert and arid lands, Marsabit is a rarely visitied forested mountain oasis where large tusk bull elephants live among the three crater lakes. Lions and birds only found in this region can be observed as well as endangered Grevys zebras.
  • Meru National Park is a remote wilderness home to many rhinos as well as abundant wildlife.
  • Laikipia, with views of 17,000 foot Mount Kenya, is a jigsaw puzzle of conservancies, ranches and farms, where wildlife is abundant and, in places, coexists with livestock management. Ol Pajeta and Lewa Conservancies and El Karama Ranch are three destinations included in some itineraries.
  • Samburu National Reserve:  Known for its concentration of endangered Grevys Zebras, maneless lions and leopards, Samburu is a unique ecosystem. Approximately 2,500 Grevys Zebras remain in the wild, 90 percent of them in Kenya and most of those are in Laikipia and Samburu.
  • Nairobi National Park - Located in the capital, Nairobi National Park is a gem that offers lion prides and both white and black rhinos and more than 400 birds. It also has unique geographical features with savannahs and various forests. It is amazing how much wildlife is in Nairobi National Park. This itinerary can be added as an extension before or at the end of the safari.
  • Kenya Coast - Mangrove forests, white sandy beaches, coral reefs and coral cliffs make up the beauty of Kenya's unique coast from the mangrove forests of the southern coast to the white sandy beaches to the United Nations World Heritage Site of Old Town Lamu. The coast offers marine conservation areas boasting sea turtles, dolphins and whales. A great way to unwind after a wildlife Safari in natural settings.

    Tanzania

  • Serengeti National Park:

  • Ngorongoro Crater

For the bird enthusiast, Kenya alone supports more than 1,000 bird species, and they can be found in large numbers in every region of Kenya.
